Dr. Parker Bassett, DO, FACS
General Surgeon, Specializing in Bariatric and Robotic Surgery
Dr. Parker Bassett was born and raised in West Texas, where he developed a deep connection to the region and its people. A proud graduate of Monahans High School, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology from the University of Texas at Austin.

He completed his medical education at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. Dr. Bassett then pursued rigorous five-year general surgery residency training at St. Barnabas Hospital, a Level I trauma center in the Bronx, New York. There, he gained extensive experience in trauma and oncologic surgery, contributed to multiple research projects, and served with distinction as Chief Resident.

Today, Dr. Bassett is board-certified and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He serves as clinical faculty at both the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where he is dedicated to educating and mentoring the next generation of medical students and surgical residents.

After completing his residency, Dr. Bassett returned home to join Midland Surgical Associates, where he has built a thriving practice focused on meeting the surgical needs of West Texas communities. He is highly proficient in robotic surgery, having performed over 2,500 robotic-assisted surgical cases with precision and excellent outcomes. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Bassett has proctored and trained other surgeons in advanced robotic techniques, sharing his expertise to elevate surgical care in the region.

Daniel Copeland, MD, FACS
General and Vascular Surgeon
Dr. Copeland was born in Irving, Texas, but soon moved with his family west at the age of nine. He attended Coronado High School in Lubbock where he was competitive in tennis.
He went on to a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree at Texas Tech University, and he attended medical school from 2001-2005 at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He completed general surgery training over the next six years at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. This included a year of research, which led to multiple scholarly publications and research presentations at the national level.
​
Dr. Copeland was also given the Robert M. Bransford Award for Outstanding Chief Resident in Surgery in 2011. He spent the next two years completing his Vascular and Endovascular training in Little Rock as well, joining Midland Surgical Associates in July 2013 after his training was complete.
He is currently board certified in General Surgery and Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. He currently has admitting privileges to Midland Memorial Hospital, as well as Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Dr. Copeland also holds a position as Clinical Assistant Professor with Texas Tech, helping teach medical students and general surgical residents. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as active in the Permian Basin Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the Society for Vascular Surgery, and the Texas Surgical Society.

His areas of interest in surgery include all aspects of Vascular and Endovascular surgery including Aortic Aneurysms, Peripheral Arterial Disease, and Varicose Veins and Venous Insufficiency. He also has interests in advanced laparoscopic surgery including foregut surgery (Nissen fundoplication) and colon surgery. He is proficient in robotic surgery, incorporating robotic foregut and colon surgery, cholecystectomy, as well as robotic inguinal and ventral hernia repair into his practice.

He is a father to two wonderful children: Anna has completed her high school at Midland Christian School (MCS) and has gone on to pursue her dreams at Texas Tech University. Cali plans to finish her Junior and Senior year as well at MCS and go on to college afterward.

Dr. Copeland is committed to providing quality surgical care to the patients of West Texas, and in particular the Permian Basin through his practice at Midland Surgical Associates. He is an active staff member of Midland Memorial Hospital, serving on several committees to improve the quality of care at the hospital setting as well. He is delighted to serve his patients and provide the best care possible.

Marshall Don Early, FACS, FACOS, RPVI
General and Vascular Surgeon
Dr. Marshall D. Early DO, FACS, FACOS, RPVI. is a native of West Texas, raised in Snyder, Texas and an alumnus of Texas Tech University with degrees in finance and economics from the Rawls School of Business. He attended Abilene Christian University for his science and premedical education.
While at Abilene Christian University he advanced academically, was awarded multiple academic scholarships, and was accepted to Oklahoma State University Medical School. Dr. Early then completed his general surgery training at Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and then followed with a vascular surgery fellowship at Philadelphia College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Research topics while in residency and fellowship included colorectal cancer screening and treatment, multiple vascular surgery topics including complicated aortoiliac occlusive disease, aortic aneurysmal disease, mesenteric ischemia, peripheral arterial disease, and dialysis access.
​
Dr. Early is dually board certified in General and Vascular/Endovascular Surgery. He has earned certifications in robotic surgery and vascular ultrasound interpretation. He was honored as a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and as a Fellow of the American College of Surgery. Dr. Early is actively involved as an attending physician for Texas Tech surgical residents for general and vascular surgery. He is also a surgical preceptor for Texas Tech medical school students.

Surgical and clinical practice includes trauma, general, surgical oncology, colorectal, endocrine, thoracic, vascular, endovascular, endoscopy, and robotic surgery.
​
Dr. Early and his wife, who is also from Snyder, are fortunate to return to family and West Texas. They are members of the Church of Christ and both alumni of Abilene Christian University. The Early’s have been blessed with three children. They are grateful for the opportunity to be in Midland, raising their family in West Texas, and to care for the community of West Texas.

Dylan Johnson, MD
General surgeon specializes in Acute care, Trauma, and Emergency Surgery
Dr. Dylan Johnson is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in acute care, trauma, and emergency surgery. Born and raised in New Orleans from a blue-collar family, Dr. Johnson was once an aspiring musician while he worked as a welder, cook, DJ, and in warehouse shipping.
While attending local community college for music, he discovered a passion for science and medicine that drastically changed his path in life and would ultimately guide him to medical school. Inspired by the surgeons who saved his legs after a serious accident as well as witnessing miracles from the doctor’s point of view during medical school, Dr. Johnson chose to pursue a career in surgery.
His working-class roots and hands-on experience would prove useful, shaping his resilience, dexterity, and deep commitment to helping others.

Dr. Johnson’s true passion is making a positive difference for patients during their most critical moments, providing skilled, compassionate care when it matters most. He believes no other field of surgery offers the opportunity to improve another’s life more than that of trauma and emergency general surgery.
A strong advocate on the importance of training the next generation of great American surgeons, he is also passionate about mentoring surgical residents and medical students. After discovering his interests were in perfect alignment with the group’s practice, Dr Johnson eagerly joined Midland Surgical Associates.

Outside of the operating room, Dr. Johnson enjoys working on home improvement projects, woodworking, fishing, playing guitar, cooking and spending time with family and friends. His diverse background and practical experience continue to inform his surgical practice, where he combines technical precision with a down-to-earth, patient-centered approach.

Sandeepa Musunuru, MD, FACS
General Surgeon specializes in Breast Surgery
A native of Wisconsin, Dr. Musunuru began her medical practice in Midland after her medical training and residencies. She is board certified in general surgery, and she has a special interest in both benign and malignant breast diseases, as well as high-risk screening/surveillance for breast cancer.
She is involved in the establishment of a multidisciplinary breast center in Midland with the goal of delivering the most up-to-date breast cancer care to the population of the Permian Basin.

Dr. Musunuru received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She then completed her general surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, during which she was involved in multiple research projects and publications.
​
After completion of her residency, Dr. Musunuru completed a breast surgery fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Russell Van Husen, MD
General and Vascular Surgeon specializes in Bariatric Surgery
Dr. Van Husen joined Midland Surgical Associates in 2007, where he specializes in open-vascular, endovascular, and bariatric surgery. Additionally, he has held various positions with Texas Tech as an Associate Professor, a Clerkship Director, and the Head of Development of Surgical Residency for the Permian Basin. He received several awards during his Residency and Fellowship, and he has published numerous research articles in professional medical publications.

Dr. Van Husen is leading the development of a Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery at Midland Memorial Hospital, and he is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the Texas Surgical Society and the Permian Basin Medical Society.
​
He did his pre-med studies at the University of Texas and completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Business at Texas Tech University. He attended the Texas Tech University School of Medicine, graduating in 2001, followed by a five-year general surgical residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He then spent some more time outside of Midland when he completed his fellowship in vascular surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

A native of Midland and a graduate of Midland High School, Dr. Van Husen is happy to be settled in his hometown with his wife and three children.
